Instructor Dr. CF Tsang
Teaching assistant Mr. Anthony Lam
Syllabus This module provides students with the fundamentals in the operations as well as the management of electronic commerce in the financial services industry. It presents an overall picture of e-commerce applications in the financial sector, regionally and internationally. Specific topics include: managerial financial knowledge, framework of e-finance; recent development of e-banking, e-brokerage, e-warrant, e-insurance, e-wealth management, and value-based management. Various cases will be studied.
Objectives To provide students a good foundation of knowledge in the current states of various e- financial services and applications in Asia, and their related technologies, strategies and market trends.
Learning outcomes Students will be equipped with up-to-date, fundamental understanding of miscellaneous e-financial services, and be able to apply knowledge learned to the design and development of new business models, solutions and applications to increase organizational operations efficiencies and competitive advantage, and for creating new business opportunities.
Prior knowledge expected This module does not assume your familiarity with the theoretical assets of finance; nor will it take you into the quantitative aspect of financial computing, which is the goal of three other modules in the MSc(CompSc) programme (COMP7405, 7406 and 7802).  However, Dr. Tsang expects you to be interested enough in the e-financial services to have done some exploratory investigation and reading on the subject before coming to class.

Dr. Tsang also wants you to complete your profile on-line so that he can have some idea about your background and expectations.
